CHÂTEAU MARGAUX Margaux 2013 Score: 90–93
Supple, with flavors of cherry preserves and red currant paste, lined with subtle bergamot, incense and black tea notes. Long, refined and graceful. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Tasted non-blind. —J.M.

CHÂTEAU PALMER Margaux 2013 Score: 90–93
This has a good mouthfilling feel, with dark plum and blackberry fruit layered with charcoal, roasted cedar and dark tobacco leaf notes. The structure is there, but it’s nicely folded in on the finish, with a smoldering iron note. Tasted non-blind. —J.M.

CHÂTEAU LASCOMBES Margaux 2013 Score: 88–91
Plump, and with a juicy edge as dark plum and blackberry flavors mingle with black tea and singed balsam wood notes. Good flesh through the stone-tinged finish. —J.M.

CHÂTEAU MALESCOT-ST.-EXUPÉRY Margaux 2013 Score: 88–91
Bright and direct, with good cherry and raspberry coulis notes laced with a mesquite hint. Nice silky finish. Elegant, with good length. —J.M.

MAROJALLIA Margaux 2013 Score: 88–91
Has a plush, toasted edge that manages to marry with the more moderate plum and blackberry fruit. Gentle cocoa- and anise-lined finish has good weight and a velvety edge. A bit dressed up in style, but pulls it off. —J.M.

CHÂTEAU RAUZAN-SÉGLA Margaux 2013 Score: 88–91
Good flesh to the plum and cherry paste notes. Finish is relatively rounded, with a good red licorice edge. Not a ton of range but this managed to get some flesh, and delivers nice mouthfeel too. —J.M.

CHÂTEAU LABÉGORCE Margaux 2013 Score: 87–90
Good plum and raspberry notes are inlaid with an ample amount of singed balsam wood and incense. A touch firm through the finish, but there’s some charm here. —J.M.

CHÂTEAU MARGAUX Margaux Pavillon Rouge 2013 Score: 87–90
A very perfumy, elegant style, with sandalwood, rooibos tea and bergamot notes, backed by fine, dusty structure and a lingering hint of cherry paste. The selection here was just 21 percent of the crop, and this is the smallest amount of Pavillon Rouge ever produced. Tasted non-blind. —J.M.

CHÂTEAU PALMER Margaux Alter Ego 2013 Score: 87–90
Shows macerated black currant and blackberry notes, with dark charcoal and bay leaf lining the finish. This has good flesh and drive, if just a bit short on depth overall. Tasted non-blind. —J.M.

CHÂTEAU PAVEIL DE LUZE Margaux 2013 Score: 87–90
The steeped plum and blackberry fruit is lined with pastis and roasted cedar notes. The well-focused, lightly grainy finish offers a warm paving-stone hint. —J.M.

Offers lots of anise and juniper hints through the finish, accented by an echo of licorice snap. Delivers impressive range and depth. Pure. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. CHÂTEAU LATOUR Pauillac 2013 Score: 90–93
Tight and primal, with a taut plum pit and iron frame around a core of red currant, cherry and raspberry fruit. Flecks of white pepper line the finish, which features a long iron spine that shows impressive cut. Comes up short on flesh, but the precision is there, offering echoes of pomegranate, blood orange and bitter cherry allied to the minerality. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. CHÂTEAU CLERC MILON Pauillac 2013 Score: 89–92
A light toasty note sits atop the plum and currant fruit for now, with alder and juniper accents lining the slightly taut finish. Seems rather tight and backward today, featuring a plum skin edge that holds sway on the finish. Shows good stuffing for the vintage. CHÂTEAU GRAND-PUY-LACOSTE Pauillac 2013 Score: 89–92

Still a bit clouded by oak today, this presents a slightly firm frame and a whiff of bread dough, but there’s persistence to the red currant, floral, iron and sanguine flavors, all carried by finely beaded acidity. CHÂTEAU LATOUR Pauillac Les Forts de Latour 2013 Score: 89–92

CHÂTEAU LA MISSION HAUT-BRION Pessac-Léognan 2013 Score: 90–93
Taut, with a tangy edge to the red currant, damson plum and blackberry notes, framed with plum skin and blood orange accents and backed by a solid roasted apple wood edge on the finish. This has a rather obvious tannic spine but is not woody in feel. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Tasted non-blind. —J.M.
